AI at the kitchen table: the small jobs it quietly takes off your plate

Most talk about AI is aimed at companies. But the version most people actually use looks like a kitchen table: a confusing letter from an insurer, a week that won't organise itself, a message to a landlord you've rewritten four times. No strategy, no setup — just small jobs that take longer than they should. Those are exactly the jobs this stuff is good at.

1.The letter you can't decode

Official paper is written to be survived, not understood. Paste the confusing part into an AI chat and ask for it in plain words, ending with what you should actually do, in three steps or fewer. Insurance letters, school forms, medical notes, the error message on the thing that stopped working — the translation alone is worth the visit.

One habit to keep: numbers and names deserve a second look against the original. AI is a translator here, not the source — the letter is still the truth, it just finally reads like it.

2.The list living in your head

Everyone carries a rolling brain-dump: errands, birthdays, the thing the car started doing, three people to call back. Say it all out loud or type it messy, and ask for it back as a calm list — today, this week, later — with each item as one small action and the single most important thing flagged.

It takes two minutes and it is weirdly restful, because the list stops living in your head rent-free. Do it Sunday night and Monday starts lighter. This is the prompt our free members tell us they use most, and it is the simplest one we teach.

3.The message you keep not sending

The email to the school, the note to the landlord, the reply to the difficult relative of a customer complaint — the drafts that stall are never stalled on typing. They're stalled on tone. Describe what happened and what you want, ask for a draft that's firm and kind, then edit it into your own words before it goes.

Same rule as everywhere we teach: the machine drafts, you decide. If it's going to a person, it gets your read first. Your name is on it, so your judgement is the last step — the AI just got you past the blank page.

The community's Everyday path starts here — one small job at a time, no business required. The free starter prompt pack includes the two prompts this guide is built on (the brain-dump list and the plain-words explainer). Take them, try one tonight, and come tell us which job it took off your plate.
